About the Committee
The Singapore Note and Coin Advisory Committee (SNCAC) was established with the following terms of reference:
- Advise on the issuance, design criteria and themes for new currency notes and coins.
- Review and recommend note and coin designs and specifications to the MAS Board.
- Advise on any other matter relating to the issue of new currency notes and coins.
The seventh SNCAC was established for a three-year term from 1 July 2017 to 30 June 2020.
Members
Ms Chong Siak Ching (Chairperson)
Chief Executive Officer, National Gallery Singapore and Head of the Visual Arts Cluster, Singapore
Ms Chong Siak Ching is the Chief Executive Officer of National Gallery Singapore and Head of the Visual Arts Cluster, Singapore. Prior to this, she was the President and CEO of Ascendas since 2001, and was recognized as ‘Outstanding CEO of the Year’ in the Singapore Business Awards 2009 for her leadership and dynamism in establishing Ascendas as Asia’s leading provider of business space.
Ms Chong is presently an Independent Director on the Board of Singapore Press Holdings Ltd, member of the National University of Singapore (NUS) Board of Trustees and a member of the Yale-NUS College Governing Board. She is on the National Arts Council Board and a member of the Advisory Board at Nanyang Business School.
Ms Lim Sau Hoong (Deputy Chairperson)
Creative Consultant
Ms Lim Sau Hoong is currently an Independent Director of NTUC Fair Price and Ascendas Reit, board member of CDAC and an Advisor to Hyflux Ltd.
She was formally the CEO and Executive Creative Director of 10AM Communications, an advertising agency that she founded in 2000. Since its founding, 10AM has garnered more than 300 awards including Cannes, the One Show, the British Designer & Art Directors club, Clio and Communication Arts. Prior to the founding of 10AM communications, she spent 12 years in both BBDO Asia (Singapore) and Ogilvy & Mather (Singapore, Beijing & Shanghai) as the head of the creative teams, attaining more than 500 awards for the two agencies.
Identified for her unique creative talent, Ms Lim was invited to join the Planning Committee for the 2008 Beijing Olympics' Opening Ceremony as visual advisor, and contributed to the success of the Beijing Olympics. She headed the Shanghai World Expo 2010 Singapore Pavilion Advisory Panel from 2008 to 2010, and chaired the Speak Mandarin Council (Singapore) from 2008 to 2011. In 2013, Ms Lim was appointed Member of the Singapore50 Culture and Community Committee. She was nominated as one of the top three most influential persons in media, marketing, and advertising in Singapore.
Ms Lim holds a Diploma in Education, Institute of Education and Bachelor of Arts (Honours) at National University of Singapore.
Ms Nur Hidayah bte Abu Bakar
Dean (Faculty of Design), LASALLE College of the Arts
Ms Nur Hidiyah is the Dean of the Faculty of Design at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore. With extensive teaching experience of more than 12 years, Nur Hidayah is instrumental to LASALLE’s Faculty of Design. She manages the demanding and challenging task of leading the pedagogical development and strategic growth of all the design programmes at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore with an enrolment of over 1000 students.
Under her leadership, the design programmes have achieved great success at regional and international design competitions and showcases including Crowbar Awards, Furniture Design Awards and Graduate Fashion Week in London. Nur has also initiated several collaborative partnership projects with different design institutions. She has also presented a research paper at the Ubuntu International Design Symposium 2011 in Seoul, which covers The Role of Design Education and another research on Collections, Fashion Curating and the Rise of Fashion Exhibitions in MuseuMs With faculty staff members, she is currently developing design capability programmes with communities in Asia and investigating issues on social enterprise for a more inclusive design culture.
Prior to joining LASALLE, Nur Hidayah has worked on copywriting, design and art direction projects across major industry segments; established clients.
Over the years, her excellent interpersonal and management skills have enabled her to inspire many students. Her vision and foresight has helped nurture these students into leaders that have contributed to the Singapore creative landscape.
Ms Angelita Teo
Director, National Museum of Singapore
Ms Angelita Teo is the Director of the National Museum of Singapore. Angelita Teo was appointed as Director of the National Museum of Singapore (NMS) in July 2013. In her first year as Director, she succeeded in welcoming over 1 million visitors to NMS – a record for any museum in Singapore. She was awarded the Public Administration Medal (Bronze) at the 2014 National Day Awards for her contributions towards the development of a vibrant cultural and heritage sector in Singapore. Between 2014 and 2015, Angelita helmed the Museum’s complete revamp of its permanent galleries, which reopened in September 2015. The makeover integrates contextual displays, multimedia interactives, contemporary art and personal stories to update the historical narrative of Singapore presented in the museum.
Since 2012, Angelita has run the Festivals and Precinct Development Division of the National Heritage Board, and is in charge of iconic annual festivals such as the Singapore Heritage Festival and Singapore Night Festival. Angelita continues to be the festival director of both festivals, which together reach out to over 2 million visitors each year.
Angelita’s expertise and influence in the cultural sector has involved her in several other cultural development projects, such as the National Gallery Singapore, and the revitalisation of the Malay Heritage Centre and Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall.
In 2016, Angelita undertook the management of the Museum Roundtable Unit, which looks at building and facilitating a stronger museum-going culture in Singapore, while positioning museums as unique and fascinating destinations. Through a network of more than 55 public and private museums, heritage galleries and unique attractions, Angelita hopes to encourage more collaborations and engagement among these member museums to develop a vibrant museum landscape. Angelita is also the Director of Retail and Merchandising under the National Heritage Board.
Angelita received her Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of British Columbia in 1995. She started her museum career as an Assistant Curator with the Asian Civilisations Museum in 1996. In 2011, Angelita pursued a Masters in Art Curatorship at the University of Melbourne under a full government scholarship from the National Heritage Board.
Mr Baey Yam Keng
Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth
Mr Baey Yam Keng is Parliamentary Secretary for the Ministry of Culture, Communication and Youth. Mr Baey entered the Singapore Parliament in 2006 and was appointed as Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth in October 2015.
He sits on the National Youth Council and is also Director of Chinese Development Assistance Council.
He started his career in 1995 in the public sector, where he served in the Economic Development Board, Ministry of Trade & Industry, Ministry of Information, Communications & the Arts and National Arts Council.
Mr Baey switched to the corporate sector in 2006 as Vice-President, Corporate Marketing & Corporate Social Responsibility at real estate company CapitaLand Limited, and was concurrently General Manager of the CapitaLand Hope Foundation. He joined international communications consultancy Hill+Knowlton Strategies in 2009 and was its Singapore Managing Director from 2011 to 2012. He was also an adjunct lecturer at Nanyang Technological University from 2013 to 2015.
He has over 20 years of theatrical production experience as the founding President of The ETCeteras. He has produced more than 10 original plays.
Mr Baey graduated from Imperial College of Science, Technology & Medicine, London with a BSc in Biotechnology (first class honours) and he obtained a MSc in Biochemical Engineering (distinction) from University College London.
He is married with three children.
Mr Tan Wee Lit
Head (Faculty of Visual Arts), School of the Arts, Singapore
Mr Tan Wee Lit is Head (Faculty of Visual Arts) at School of the Arts, Singapore. Tan Wee Lit graduated with an MFA in Sculpture and has exhibited extensively locally and internationally as a practicing artist. He is a recipient of numerous study awards and scholarships from the National Arts Council Singapore and the Media Authority Singapore for his undergraduate and graduate studies. Tan has also worked on multiple commissions for private collections and public art works at Raffles Place (2013) , Haw Par Villa (2012) and the Jubilee Walk (2015).
He had his first solo exhibition for "12x12 New Artists/ New Work" at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and was also awarded the Graduate Fellowship upon graduation. He won the Grand Prize for the 3rd Singapore Sculpture Award in 2007 and has had exhibitions in Europe, the United States and Asia- amongst them "Identities vs Globalisation" (Berlin), "The Same Rain, The Same Wind" (Chiangmai National University), "We Who Saw Signs" (ICA Singapore), "Fifth Outdoor Sculpture Biennial" (Baltimore).
He has taught at Singapore Management University, Lasalle College of the Arts, Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore University of Social Sciences and School of the Arts Singapore. Wee Lit was conferred the Young Artist Award by the National Arts Council in 2012.
Mr Low Kwok Mun
Assistant Managing Director (Finance, Risk and Currency), MAS
Mr Low Kwok Mun is the Assistant Managing Director of the Finance, Risk and Currency Group. Prior to this appointment, Mr Low headed the Complex Institutions Department, which is responsible for the consolidated supervision of banking groups.
Mr Low joined the Monetary Authority of Singapore in 1986. He was head of the Insurance Supervision Department from February 2005 to June 2010. His previous appointments include Head of the Prudential Policy Department and Head of the Monetary Management Division. He also headed MAS' corporate planning and communications division. Mr Low was attached to the International Monetary Fund for two years as the Alternate Executive Director for the Southeast Asia voting group before returning to MAS in November 2002. Mr Low holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree from the National University of Singapore.
